Technology has become a valuable and integral part of the Providence learning community. The use of technology is a privilege meant to enhance learning and communication. In order to facilitate a safe and flourishing educational environment, members of the Providence community are expected to adhere to the policy as outlined below.
Scope:
This policy applies to the use of technology resources both at school and off-site by staff, students and guests. It applies to all technology resources, including servers, desktops, laptops, iPads, printers, projectors, programs, and internet access.
Responsible Use Expectations:
- Users are expected to use technology resources in ways that are responsible, ethical, and legal.
- Users are expected to use technology resources in accordance with the school code of conduct. Violations to this code would include plagiarism, copyright infringement, harassment, defamation, threatening or discriminatory behaviour, and accessing obscene material.
- School owned or leased technology is to be used for educational purposes. The user is expected to ensure that no other technological activities interfere with this main purpose.
- Any attempted modification of restrictions or protections without authorization from technology staff is strictly prohibited.
- Users are expected to abide by care instructions as given by teachers and technology coordinators for all school owned and leased technology resources.
- Users are expected to report promptly and with full disclosure any damage to or malfunction of leased or school-owned technology resources.
- Use of personal computing devices is not permitted in private areas such as washrooms or change rooms.
Safety and Privacy Considerations:
- Users agree to use only approved logins to access accounts.
- Users agree not to access or modify other users’ information without clear consent from the user.
